Our People

Scott R. Playfair
Founder, President
An industrial engineer by degree, Scott worked in industry for over 20 years before founding P Squared. He held management positions in Fortune 100 companies such as General Motors, Alcoa, and Champion International Paper as well as several rapidly growing, mid-sized companies. His experience includes a multitude of line and staff management positions ranging from front line supervision to the senior executive level.

During the 10 years prior to the formation of P Squared, Scott held executive positions responsible for corporate-wide HR, training and development, process improvement, organizational development, and change management.

Scott possesses significant expertise in planning and implementing corporate-wide change efforts focused on successful and positive human resource transition geared toward organizational improvement. Examples include the design and implementation of team-based cultural transition, continuous process improvement/total quality management initiatives, and HR change management as it relates to strategic business decisions and key initiatives.

Scott is a dynamic trainer, facilitator, and consultant. He has successfully combined his unique knowledge into a powerful blend of Continuous Process Improvement and Human Resource/Organizational Development with a strong foundation in real world experience. His broad experience base offers clients proven methods to gain competitive advantage by positively leveraging their human resources.

Michael T. Hennings
Principal Consultant
Mike joined P Squared Consulting as a Senior Consultant in 1999 after over 20 years of industry experience. His expertise assists clients in establishing and executing strategies that achieve superior financial results, expand customer loyalty, accomplish operating excellence and prudent growth, and obtain optimum share holder value.

During his career, Mike has held progressively responsible positions primarily in finance ascending to the senior executive level. Prior to joining P Squared, his most recent job was President of a multi-million dollar business unit. There, he was responsible for doubling the business in both volume and revenue while reducing operating overheads by over 10%.

In addition to his general management experience, Mike has been responsible for directing acquisition and merger activities designed to achieve growth strategies, change management initiatives directed at operating and strategic planning processes, and company-wide Total Quality Management implementations. He also established a continuous process improvement culture while in his senior management position.

His focus on continuous process improvement and his wide variety of management experience allow him to provide significant contribution to clients offering a full range of knowledge and expertise.

Carol Stevens
Principal Consultant
Carol joined P Squared Consulting in 2003 as a Principal Consultant. She has an extensive background in strategic consulting, curriculum development and training delivery. Her professional experience includes several positions in training, management, and marketing with two NYSE companies: Exxon Company, U.S.A. and Administaff. An important part of Carol's qualification is her unique experience of not only training and motivating others to excel, but also serving in the very management positions for which she now trains others. This sensitivity to the diverse aspects of supervising and training matches well the needs of her clients.

Carol has professional certifications to facilitate seminars in over 100 subject areas, and her areas of expertise include customer service, personal effectiveness, teambuilding, management techniques, and priority management.

Carol received Bachelor of Arts degrees in Marketing and Liberal Arts from The University of Texas at Austin. She has served as a Board Member for the Houston Chapter of the American Society for Training and Development. Carol is also a Life Member of the University of Texas Ex-Students’ Association, and an active volunteer in the community through the Junior League of Houston.

Grover Thomas
Principal Consultant
Grover joined P Squared Consulting in 2003 after over 40 years experience in execution, project and executive management of technical and commercial project work worldwide. After several years of technical engineering work, Grover managed in-house and field projects in the Engineering/Construction industry, liaising with equipment and technology vendors as well as other material and service providers. Further experience involved responsibility for internal and external sales efforts for services type projects in extremely competitive markets.

Grover conducted successful safety, operation and maintenance training for customer personnel prior to start-up and commissioning of refinery, petrochemical and other energy processing plants many times approaching $1 billion in capital investment. Safety was the key factor for protecting the investment, the operating staff and the community, and requiring failsafe procedures and training to execute them flawlessly. Other duties included development and implementation of training plans for all internal customer service personnel. Sales coordinators were selected and trained as assistants to the line salespeople for ultimate growth into a sales position. Grover also conducted teambuilding and quality improvement training sessions.

Grover led several teams to transfer technology and expertise to customers, usually from third world countries through interpreters. One such group from China numbered 70 engineers who were trained for 10 months sufficiently to function as a partner for execution of major petrochemical projects in the Far East.

Robert Winter
Principal Consultant
Robert joined P Squared Consulting in 2004 as a Principal Consultant. He is an experienced trainer, consultant and motivational speaker with over 15 years experience in human and organizational development. He has presented over 400 workshops, seminars, and retreats on leadership development, team building, strategic planning, career development, and personality type to manufacturing, service, government, and educational organizations.

Robert’s affiliations include Inscape Publishing, Blanchard Training & Development, and AchieveGlobal. He is also a licensed Masters Social Worker in the state of Texas.

He has worked as Vice-President from Student Development, Trainer/ Consultant, Career Center Director, and Counselor for the North Harris Montgomery Community College District. Robert is a graduate of the University of Texas with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master of Science degree in Counseling Social Work.
